Dam Loop

Length: 2.3 miles
Elevation Gain: 220 ft

Overview

This scenic loop takes you past the historic Sabino Dam which is one of the most reliable locations to see water in the canyon and is often visited by a variety of wildlife. It also offers views up Sabino Canyon including rocky cliffs, large cottonwood trees, and plenty of iconic saguaro cacti.

Directions

From the visitor center take the Bear Canyon Trail east for a half a mile to its junction with Bear Canyon Roadway. Take a right on Bear Canyon Roadway and follow it for a quarter mile to Bear Canyon Shuttle Stop 2. From Shuttle Stop 2 go left/straight (north) at the fork in the road. Walk 0.2 miles to the end of the pavement and then continue up the dirt road, past a set of picnic tables, to the dam. Once you’ve enjoyed the dam, continue north to the end of the road and join the Bluff Trail. Follow the Bluff Trail above Sabino Creek for its 0.2-mile length to where it connects with the Sabino Canyon Roadway. Turn left to follow the roadway back to the visitor center. The full loop is 2.3 miles.
