Picnic Areas
Much of the early infrastructure in Sabino Canyon was constructed by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s. This includes over 100 picnic tables scattered throughout the recreation area. Picnicking in the canyon has been a popular activity for visitors ever since, although use of many of these picnic sites have diminished since the canyon was closed to public vehicles in the 1970s.
